Now that the United States no longer leads the world in many technologies, there is an urgent need to step up its international technology monitoring, to ensure that the US continues to have access to the world's best technologies, and to avoid technological surprise.  WTIP has been formed to assist in that critical mission, building upon the experience of the two leading companies in global technology monitoring:

The Asian Technology Information Program, Inc. (ATIP), which has produced over 1500 reports on foreign technologies since 1985, and

The World Technology Evaluation Center, Inc., (WTEC) which has produced over 60 on-site, peer-review technology assessments abroad since 1989.
